True North Mining LLC is a Minnesota limited liability company, registered to do business in Alaska. It operates an offshore placer gold recovery fleet on the seafloor of Norton Sound, off Nome.

The company holds its vessel operations through Nikola Holdings, LLC, and its marine support and logistics through Stryker Marine, LLC. Both vessels are crewed by people who have run Arctic water before — which, in a place where the season is six months and the weather makes the decisions, is not a detail.

Nome is one of the very few gold districts in the world where the richest remaining ground is underwater. That is the whole reason the company exists, and it is the thing that makes the operation difficult enough to be worth doing.
